PASSENGER ARRESTED DURING TRAFFIC STOP FOR POSSESSING 1.74 OUNCES OF MARIJUANA

On 3-15-08 at about 4:00pm, Canby Police Officer Brett Ethington arrested MIGUEL CHAVEZ-MORALES DOB: 9-28-84 of Molalla for possessing 1.74 ounces of marijuana.

CHAVEZ-MORALES admitted to officers that he had the marijuana for the purpose of using and selling it for a profit.

Officer Ethington located the marijuana in a backpack that CHAVEZ-MORALES admitted was his. The marijuana was packaged into multiple smaller baggies that the officer recognized as being packaged for sales. Scales and other items related to the distribution of marijuana were located in the backpack.

Prior to the traffic stop, this particular vehicle had been called in as a possible DUII driver. Officer Ethington was in the area of the reported DUII and saw a subject running down the street holding a Coke can. During the traffic stop, Officer Ethington recognized another passenger in the vehicle as the subject he saw running down the road with the Coke can.

Officer Ethington located the Coke can in the back pocket of the drivers seat. He noticed the top of the can was offset and found a secret compartment in the coke can. Inside the can there was a small amount of marijuana residue.

CHAVEZ-MORALES was lodged at Clackamas County Jail for Distribution of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana).

The driver of the vehicle was cited for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and a traffic violation. The case is being referred to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office.
