Found Child- Request for Public Assistance
In the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 28, 2005, members of
the Canby Fire Department, returning from a call, located a 3-4 year-old
Hispanic female walking westbound on the sidewalk on Highway 99E near N.
Juniper Street. The child was wearing a bathrobe and bedroom slippers.
The Canby Police were immediately contacted ands the child was taken to
the Canby Police Department.
Canby Police request the assistance of the public in identifying this
child. Please forward any information to either Det. Tony Fetters at
503-793-2010 or Det. Steve Christman- 503- 701-8967.
UPDATE - LOST CHILD'S PARENTS LOCATED
In connection with the earlier press release from this morning- the lost
4 year-old child found by the Canby Fire Department has been reunited
with her mother. The child was left by her mother at a daycare provider.
When the provider went to use the restroom, the child left the apartment
and started walking to her mother's worksite which was several blocks
away.
Canby Police made an investgation of the circumstances and no criminal
charges will be filed against the day care provider..

SUSPECT ARRESTED IN HIT & RUN AND DUII
At 10:05 PM on December 21, 2005, Officer Chris Scharmota responded to a
Hit & Run accident ( no injury/ property damage only ) on the corner of
NW 1st and N. Holly street.
The driver ( a female who lives in rural Canby ) told Officer Scharmota
that she was driving east on NW 1st Avenue when she was struck by a
white pick-up truck heading south on N. Holly. She said the truck
disregarded the stop sign. The victim driver told police that the
operator of the pick-up truck failed to stop and continued driving.
A witness to the accident later informed Officer Scharmota that he
followed the suspect to Mikes Tavern on NW 1st and observed him enter
the establishment . This same witness later made a positive ID of the
suspect who by this time had been contacted by Officer Scharmota.
Officer Scharmota concluded his investigation at the bar and
subsequently arrested Dennis Edward HALL Jr. ( 02-09-75 ) of N. Canby
for the crimes of Hit & Run driving and DUII.
Hall was later lodged in the Clackamas County Jail. During his booking
procedure, a small pipe used for smoking marijuana was located in his
possessions and he was also given an additional charge of Supplying
Contraband into a Correctional Facility.
The case has been forwarded to the Clackamas County District Attorney
for further legal action.

AUTO-PED ACCIDENT
At 3:41 PM on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, Officer Jeremy Holstad
responded along with Canby Fire Department to a reported accident
involving a motor vehicle and a child on a bicycle.The accident occurred
at the intersection of NE 4th and N. Pine street.
Upon investigating, Officer Holstad discovered that 10 year-old Zachary
Sisson of N. Canby had been struck by a vehicle operated by Sulamita
Gonzalez ( 11-09-80 ), also of N. Canby. The child was wearing a bike
helmet at the time of the accident.
The child was transported for observation to OHSU by his father. His
medical injures were reported to be minor at the time of the incident.
No citations have been issued as the accident remains under
investigation.

SUSPECTS ARRESTED ON WARRENTS
At approximately 2:50 PM on November 2, 2005, Canby Police arrested two
During the early morning hours of December 1, 2005, Officers Scott
Cunningham and Chris Mead assisted Clackamas County Sheriffs Department
on a suspicious vehicle call. Upon arriving at the area of the call
located in the 26000 block of S. Bolland Rd, Officer Cunningham stopped
a vehicle matching the description after observing it fail to come to a
stop prior to entering the roadway. The adult driver was found to be
suspended and was cited and the vehicle towed. Information was also
obtained during the course of this stop, that wanted two individuals,
Pamela Suzanne JONES ( 03-08-82) of SE Canby, and Brian David HORNING (
05-19-84 ) were at a residence located at the 800 block os S. Heinz Rd.
Officers Cunnunham and Mead subsequently went to this address and
located both Horning and Jones.
Horning had warrants from Clackamas County charging him with
Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Theft
II.
Ms. Jones was wanted in Clackamas County for Unauthorized Use of a
Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Theft II.
Both were lodged in the Clackamas County Jail.

SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN BURGLARY CASES
At approximately 2:50 PM on November 2, 2005, Canby Police arrested two
persons in connection with a burglary that had occurred during the day
of October 30, 2005.
Sgt. Tim Sommer took the original burglary report from a S. Pine street
resident who indicated that sometime between 10AM-2PM, unknown persons
had walked into their opened garage, entered an unlocked car, and stolen
a purse containing credit cards and cash.
The victim later reported that the credit card had been used several
times in the Woodburn area to make numerous purchases. One of the
purchases involved buying new tires and wheels.
Detective Steve Christman was assigned the follow-up investigation and
proceeded to make inquiries as to how many times and where the credit
card had been illegally used. Upon contacting the tire shop in Woodburn
to get the facts concerning the suspects description, he also was able
to obtain a description of the vehicle used by the female suspect, which
was described as a 1996 Gold Chevrolet Blazer. Det. Christman later
informed the husband of victim of the progress of the investigation and
mentioned the suspect vehicle's traits to him during the conversation.
Around 2: 40 PM on November 2, 2005, the victims husband was outside of
his residence and noticed a vehicle matching the suspects description
driving by his home. He followed them in his car and notified police. He
attempted to block the suspects in but they took off eventually pulling
in behind BBC Steel on SE Township and ran off on foot.
Responding Canby Officers gave a brief search and located and
subsequently arrested Kortni Marie HUDSON (12-13-80 ) and Kendall Lee
SHUPE ( 05-28-86 ) both of whom live together on NE Fargo Rd. in
Aurora. A third person , Jason Lee HOBBS ( 04-13-85 ), was also in the
Blazer and was arrested and lodge in jail for Possession of a
Controlled Substance after small amount of methamphetamine was located
near his person.
MS. HUDSON and MS. SHUPE were both charged with 1st degree Burglary and
Identity Theft in connection with the October 30th burglary on S. Pine
Street. Evidence linking them to the crime was located inside the
Blazer, which suffered severe mechanical damage when it drove in behind
BBC Steel.
The case has been sent to the District Attorney for further legal
action and more investigation will be forthcoming involving crimes
committed in the Woodburn area with the stolen credit cards.

SUSPECT ARRESTED IN WEAPONS & DRUG RAID
On Thursday, October 27, 2005, members of the Canby Police Department,
assisted by West Linn PD and the Clackamas County Sheriffs Department
served a search warrant in the 500 block of N. Locust Street.
Prior to the warrants execution, at approximately 11:00AM, Canby Police
followed and subsequently arrested Daniel George PULS ( 08-20-44 ) in
the parking lot of the Cutsforth Thriftway store. PULS was taken into
custody without incident and was not armed at the time.
Canby Police then entered into PULS residence on N. Locust street
where, after an exhausting 10 hour search, seized over 100 various
handguns, rifles and shotguns,over ten- thousand of rounds of
ammunition, an assault rifle, a sawed -off shotgun and police issued
shotgun, body armor, and a silencer.
The Clackamas County Sheriffs Department Bomb Squad removed electric
matches, an electric fuse igniter, a cannon fuse, black powder, M-80
explosives, a military smoke hand grenade, and a riot tear gas grenade
cannister. Police also seized a jar containing cyanide.
PULS has a medically issued marijuana card. However, police seized 16
growing plants and approximately 4 lbs of cultivated and bagged
marijuana which is in gross excess of his legally allowable allotment.
PULS is a convicted felon with a criminal history dating back to 1961
where he was first incarcerated in Oregon for Assault, Robbery,
Burglary, and Passing a Forged Document. PULS most recent incarceration
was in the mid-1980's where he served several years in a Minnesota
federal prison for possession of a silencer for a firearm.
PULS was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on initial charges of
Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Body Armor,
Possession of a Silencer, Possession and Manufacturing of an Explosive
Device, five (5) counts of Menacing, and possession and Delivery of a
Controlled Substance.
The case remains under investigation and has been referred to the
Clackamas County District Attorney for review and further action.

Suspect arrested for Burglary, Kidnaping, and Assault
At approximately 8:30 AM on Tuesday, October 25, 2005, Canby Police
arrested Ruben FRAUSTO-HERNANDEZ ( 03-21-75 ), and charged him with
numerous criminal charges in connection with an assault on a former
girlfriend that occurred in the 300 block of SW 2nd. Hernandez was
lodged in the Clackamas County Jail.
During the early hours of October 25, 2005, Frausto-Hernandez ( who
lives in Beaverton ), knocked on the door of his ex-girlfriend, who
reluctantly let him inside. He refused to leave when she requested and
he assaulted her by slapping her numerous times in the face and he
subsequently locked her in the bathroom refusing to let her leave.
Around 7:36 AM, she managed to dial 911 and quickly hang up. As the
call was received as incomplete, dispatch (CCOM ) dispatched Canby PD to
the residence.
When nobody would answer the door for the police, a forced entry was
made by kicking in the door. The victim and suspect were located inside
and Frausto-Hernandez was arrested without incident. The victim did not
require medical attention.
The suspect was lodged on charges of Burglary 1, Kidnap 1, Assault
4,and held on probation violations for Coercion and Assault 4.
The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney
for further action.

18 month old girl life-flighted to OHSU
On 09-15-05 at approximately 7:20 PM, Canby Police Department
responded to a residence on S. Ivy St. to assist the Canby Fire
Department with an 18 month old child who had fallen down a flight
of stairs. When Canby Police arrived the 18-month-old child had
already been life-flighted to OHSU with possible head injuries.
According to Officer Farmer, the officer on scene, a 5 year old
child, who also lives at the residence pushed the 18 month old
down a flight of stairs. Both children are foster children. According
to the foster mother, the 5 year old child has become physically
aggressive and that she has been in contact with the Department
of Health and Human Services regarding the physical behavior.
As of this writing the 18 month old child has been released from
the hospital and has not sustained any serious injuries. The child
is back at home with the foster family.

Suspect arrested in Connection with 8/29 Search Warrants
On September 6, 2005, Canby Police Detectives arrested Juan Ramon
ROMERO-RENTERIA ( 08-29-68 ) at his place of employment in Clackamas,
OR, and charged him with Possession and Delivery of a Controlled
Substance, and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
This subject was not home when Canby Police served a search warrant
at his residence on August 29, 2005 during a city wide methamphetamine
enforcement operation.
Detectives discovered that Romero-Rentaria was also being employed
at his worksite using a fictitious name and social security number
during the arrest.
Romero-Renteria's spouse was taken into custody during the drug
operation on August 29th, and remains in the Clackamas County
Jail.
The case will be reviewed by the District Attorney
prior to further legal action.

RAPE SUSPECT ARRESTED
During the late afternoon of Tuesday, August 30, 2005, Canby
Police officers responded to a report of a sexual assault in involving
an elderly female at a SW Canby Adult Foster Care Home. Investigating
officers determined that a young adult male had presented himself
at the foster care facility and requested to speak with the elderly
female resident who he had met over the internet.
The foster care home proprietor became suspicious after the younger
male had entered the elderly female's bedroom and closed the door
and she subsequently contacted the residents daughter who came
to the facility. When the daughter opened the door,she found her
mother in a state of undress and the male also unclothed. She
confronted the male and struck him with her mothers walker ( the
elderly female was physically disabled ), as the male ran out
of the facility. The police were then summoned.
Investigation by Canby Police Detectives lead to the identity
of the suspect as one Justin Emilleo FOSSA ( 08-12-77 ) of Creswell,
Oregon. Creswell is located approximately 10 miles SE of Eugene,
Oregon. On August 31, 2005, Canby Police Detectives contacted
Fossa at his Creswell residence and subsequently arrested him
on charges of Rape in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the
1st degree. He was initially lodged in the Lane County Jail and
later transported that evening to Clackamas County Jail by Canby
officers.
After Fossa's arrest, Canby Detectives obtained a Search Warrant
for his residence which was served during the late hours of August
31, 2005 and evidence in the case was seized.
The case has been referred to the Clackamas County District Attorneys
office for further legal action.

August 29, 2005
Search Warrants
In the early morning hours of August 29, 2005, members of the
Canby Police TET Team, along with Detectives, executed three search
warrants on local residences in connection with a lengthy investigation
of a major methamphetamine distribution ring in the Canby area.
As a result,three adults were lodged in Clackamas County Jail
on numerous drug charges. One of the adults was also charged with
1st degree Child neglect and her 3 year-old son was taken into
protective custody by Canby Police and agents of the Department
of Human Services.
Arrested and charged with 1 count of Possession of Controlled
Substances, and 1 count of Delivery of a Controlled Substance
was Sabino GONZALEZ-CABOS Jr. ( aka Salvadore IBANEZ-de DIOS )
DOB: 01-05-71. Who lives in the 700 block of SE 5th street in
Canby.
Investigators seized over 1/4 lb of suspected methamphetamine
from GONZALEZ-CABOS which was found in his apartment. His two
vehicles and an undisclosed amount of cash was also seized from
this suspect.
Officers also served a search warrant on a house located on the
300 block on NE 4th. Suspected methamphetamine was seized from
this residence and arrested and lodged in Clackamas County Jail
was Ms Guadalupe GONZALEZ-LUNA (11-20-69), a resident of the home.
She was charged with 1 count of Possession of a Controlled Substance,
1 count of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and 1 count of
Endangering the Welfare of a Minor as she had two teenage children
living in the residence.
Lastly, police arrested Wendy Marie MIller (12-03-75) of the
200 block of SE 2nd after serving search warrant at her residence.
Miller was lodged in Clackamas County Jail on 1 count of Possession
of a Controlled Substance, 1 count of Delivery of a Controlled
Substance, one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, one
count of 1st degree Child Neglect, a 1 counts of Fraudulent Use
of a Credit Card.
Millers 3 year-old son was also taken into protective custody
by Canby Police and DHS. The case is still under investigation
and additional arrests are anticipated.

Armed Robbery
At 7:10 PM on August 28, 2005, Canby Police responded to a report
of a strong-armed robbery occurring at Cutsforth Thriftway store
located at 225 NE 2nd street. Upon arriving, Sgt. Jorge Tro and
Officer Chris Scharmota assisted Cutsforth staff and their Loss
Prevention officer in taking Damien Owen FULLILOVE( 08-22-75),
no claimed address, into custody. FULLILOVE was stopped after
being observed by loss prevention shoplifting meat and a packet
of razor blades.
FULLILOVE began resisting and fighting with Loss Prevention and
Cutsforth staff and when police arrived, 5 employees were struggling
to contain FULLILOVE.
FULLILOVE was subsequently lodged in the Clackamas County Jail
on one count of Robbery III, and additionally had three warrants
for Theft II from Clackamas County, and one Probation Violation
warrant for DUII from Multnomah County in existence for his arrest.
The case is being referred to the Clackamas County District Attorneys
office for further legal action.

Stolen Vehicle
While on routine patrol, Officer Nate DiCenzo overheard a radio
transmission from the Woodburn Police Department that a lone female
had just stolen a vehicle and was last seen heading north on Highway
99E toward Canby. Officer Di Cenzo began driving south and near
the Top-of-Hill restaurant observed the stolen van and began giving
chase. The suspect began accelerating reaching speeds over 90
mph and changed lanes several times nearly causing several accidents.
When the suspect tried to drive into the Canby Sand and Gravel
lot in hopes of losing Officer Di Cenzo, she lost control and
crashed into an embankment ditch.
The driver attempted to flee on foot but was captured immediately
by Officer Di Cenzo. Canby Medics were called and examined the
suspect who was not injured.
Further investigation indicated that the driver, now identified
as Janette Maria DAHLMAN-DEYAC ( 02-06-77 ) of SE Portland, was
impaired and was arrested for DUII, Attempting to Elude Police,
Possession of a Controlled Substance ( methamphetamine ), and
Reckless Driving. She was booked into the Clackamas County Jail.
She also was driving on a suspended drivers license.
The stolen vehicle, which appeared to have been totaled from
the collision, was towed by it's owner who arrived along with
Woodburn Police to the accident scene. Pending charges against
Ms. DAHLMAN-DEYAC for stealing the vehicle will be addressed in
Marion County. It was determined from Woodburn the police that
the suspect was helping the owner of the vehicle whom she knew,
when they became embroiled in an argument resulting in Ms. DAHLMAN-DEYAC
leaving in the victim's van without permission.

Suspect arrested in assault
On Monday August 1, 2005 around 3:45 PM, Officer Jason Deason
arrested Carl Robert LEWIS ( 12-21-68 ) of NE Canby for felony
Assault III. Mr. Lewis was taken into custody after he reportedly
struck a male friend in the face with a police baton after a verbal
altercation regarding some money the friend claimed Mr. Lewis
owed him for a car alarm. The incident occurred in the 100 block
of NE 5th street.
The victim did not require any medical attention after being
struck with the weapon on the left side of his face.
Mr. Lewis was transported to the county jail and booked on the
Assault III charge. The case will be reviewed by the District
Attorney for further legal action.

outside with neighbors.

event. The National Night Out campaign is an extraordinary way
to build neighborhood unity and strengthen police-community partnerships.
The Canby Police and Canby Fire Departments (with special assistance
from Cutsforth Thriftway and Greenbriar Apartments) are also planning
a citywide event on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Wait Park and Locust
Street Parks from 6:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. The event will feature
free ice cream and games for the kids, along with crime prevention
literature and chat groups with officials from the police, fire

Child Pornography Suspect Sentenced
On January 27, 2005, members of the Oregon Internet Crimes Against
Children (ICAC), and the Canby Police Department executed a search
warrant at the SE 2nd Ave Canby home of Arthur Learoy SEIBERT,
DOB:07-07-59. The warrant was a result of a continuing investigation
into unlawful possession and dissemination of child pornography.
During his subsequent interview, Mr. SEIBERT confessed to possessing
and disseminating numerous sexual explicit images involving children.
On June 23, 2005, Mr. SEIBERT plead guilty in Clackamas County
Circuit Court to two (2) counts of possession of child pornography
( Encouraging Child Sex Abuse II- a Class C Felony ), resulting
in the following sentence: 120 days in the county jail- $1,744.00
in fines and fees, 120 months supervised probation, and general
sex offender registry terms.

MIP PARTY INVESTIGATED / ARRESTS MADE
At 12:30 AM on Sunday, May 29, 2005, Canby Police responded to
a complaint of loud music and noise coming from a residence in
the 1300 block of SE 9th Ave. Upon arriving, officers discovered
several underage juveniles consuming alcoholic beverages. In addition,
the 17 year-old daughter of the home owners ( who were not home
), was found unconscious in an upstairs bathroom. Canby Police
summoned medical assistance and she was attended to by Canby Fire
Department Medics and transported to Willamette Falls Hospital
for suspected alcohol poisoning. She was subsequently released.
Four juveniles received citations for Minor in Possession of
Alcohol and their parents were contacted and responded to the
scene .Their future status will be determined by the Clackamas
County Juvenile Department. Two adults, ages 18 and 19 received
citations for MIP Alcohol and were released at the scene. Their
cases will be addressed in the Canby Municipal Court.
Arrested and charged with Furnishing Alcohol to
Minors was Jason Alan SCHNEIDER, (11-02-82), of Milwaukie. SCHNEIDER
was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail and has a June 30th court
date in Canby Municipal Court.

DRUG ARRESTS/ SEARCH WARRANT SERVED
At 8:00 AM on Friday May 6, 2005, Canby Police Detectives and
members of the CPD TET Team , executed a search warrant at the
Highland Terrace apartments located at 4526 Rothe Rd in Milwaukie,
OR.
CPD lead detective Steve Floyd assisted by other members of the
CPD Detective Division, have been conducting a Canby connected
methamphetamine distribution investigation which lead to an apartment
at the Highland Terrace rented by a former Canby man and this
girlfriend who was also a former Canby resident.
Arrested and charged with Delivery and Possession of a Controlled
Substance and one count of 1st degree Child Neglect was Leslie
Brian HAYES ( 11-17-73 ).
Mr. Hayes' girlfriend, Kelli Lynn HORN ( 01-25-75 ), who also
resided in the apartment, was charged with Frequenting a Place
Where Controlled Substances are Sold. Horn's 9 year-old daughter,
was contacted at Riverside Elementary School during the execution
of the warrant and was placed into protective custody by Canby
PD Detectives and representatives of DHS owing to the unsafe environment
of the apartment.
Also located on the premises when the warrant was served was
Raymond Glenn GIBBONS ( 01-07-64 ) of N. Canby and Jeremy T. HOFFMAN
( 08-26-73 ) of S. Canby. Both men were charged with Frequenting
a Place where Drugs are Sold.
A sizable quantity of methamphetamine and cash was seized at
the apartment during the course of the search warrant.
The case has been referred to the District Attorneys office for
further legal action.
The issue involving the 9-year-old daughter is being
resolved through DHS.

HIT & RUN ACCIDENT - ROAD RAGE ARRESTS
Around 6:30 PM on Monday May 2, 2005, Officer Nathan Di Cenzo
was dispatched to a hit and run accident which had occurred between
a vehicle and a bicyclist on 99E and N. Redwood Street.
The bicyclist, a 14 year-old Canby youth, told police that he
had crossed 99E from south Redwood to N. Redwood in the crosswalk,
and was struck by a white Dodge sedan that was making a right
turn from 99E onto N. Redwood.
The youth said he was knocked off his bike but received only
minor scrapes as the vehicle was traveling around 20 mph. He said
the Dodge sedan was driven by an elderly white female who failed
to stop and continued driving down N. Redwood. The bicyclist told
Officer Di Cenzo that he followed the car for a short distance,
but as it had no rear license plate, he could not provide a further
description.
A search for the suspect vehicle was not successful.

At 3:14 PM on May 3, 2005, Officer Lisa Panoff arrested Christopher
Michael OAS ( 04-19-72 ) of Molalla on charges of Unlawful Possession
of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, and Menacing.
Officer Panoff was dispatched to a call of road rage which had
occurred on Highway 170 near Lone Elder Rd. where OAS had displayed
a firearm while operating a vehicle to a Canby man and his two
passengers who were following him. OAS told police that he was
upset because he felt the Canby driver was following him too close.
OAS was contacted at a relatives apartment in SE Canby by Officers
Panoff and Deason and gave permission for a search of the vehicle
he was driving. A .357 Revolver was located under the seat. OAS,
a convicted felon recently had been released from an Idaho prison
for a Grand Theft Auto conviction.
The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney's
office for review and further action.

NARCOTIC ARRESTS - SEARCH WARRANT SERVED
On Wednesday, April 27, 2005, Canby Police officers arrested
4 men and served a search warrant on a NE Canby residence in connection
to several drug related investigations. The investigations were
headed by Detective Steve Floyd.
Arrested after a traffic stop at the Canby Gun Club at 2:40 PM
on a charges of Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance
was Robert Lawrence BAKER (07-10-66 ) of NW Canby. A sizable amount
of methamphetamine was seized at the scene attributed to Baker.
Baker was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on these drug charges.
At around 4PM, Canby Police executed a search warrant at the
home of Richard Alan WOODWORTH on NW 3rd Street. A search of the
residence yielded the seizure of 9 rifles and shotguns and ammunition.
Woodward was lodged in Clackamas County Jail on a charge of Being
a Felon in Possession of Firearms and Frequenting a Place where
Controlled Substances are Used.
Also contacted and issued citations at the scene of the search
warrant were:
Luis Esquvez-Avalos ( 01-17-83 ) who lives in the residence He
was charged with Frequenting a Place Where Controlled Substances
are Used and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Timothy James Thompson ( 01-18-60 ), another resident of the
Woodworth home was charge with Frequenting A Place Where Controlled
Substances are Used.
Thompson and Esquvez will have their cases heard in Canby Municipal
Court.
The District Attorneys office will review the cases of Baker
and Woodworth.

CAR WASH FIRE
At 6:30 pm on Monday, April 25, 2005, Officer Nate DiCenzo responded
to assist the Fire Department on a structure fire located at Canby
Car Wash located at 851 SW 1st Ave . Investigation initially revealed
that a teenage male and an adult male had dumped some type of
liquid substance into the drainage system in the carwash bays.
This substance subsequently caught fire which engulfed the car
wash bays. Extensive damage resulted from the fire before it was
extinguished by the the Fire Department. The exact monetary loss
suffered by the owner is not known at this time.
Witnesses indicated that the two males were seen leaving the
scene in a light brown or tan large sized pick-up truck with a
white canopy. The truck was pulling a small boat on a trailer.
The younger male was described as a medium built teenager with
light blond hair. The adult was described as being a medium sized
male in his late 30-s to early 40's with brown hair.
The Oregon State Police arson unit is assisting
with the investigation. Any person with information concerning
the suspects in this incident should contact Det-Sgt. Brian Howarth
at the Canby Police Department at 503-266-4024 ext. 226.

MIP PARTY - ADULT CHARGED FOR FURNISHING
At 3:20 AM, members of the Canby Police Department responded
to an in-progress minor in possession of alcohol party in the
400 block of S. Pine street. Upon arrival, officers encountered
numerous underage persons inside the residence in possession of
alcoholic beverages.
Nineteen persons received citations for MIP/Alcohol , eight (8)
of which were referred to the Clackamas County Juvenile Court.
The remaining eleven persons were cited into the Canby Municipal
Court. The majority of the juveniles had their parents contacted
who responded to the scene of the party and their children were
released into their custody.
Investigation indicated that the hostess of the party used her
home because her mother was out of town for the weekend. The hostess
invited numerous classmates and friends to attend the party after
the Canby High School Prom.
Officer Scott Cunningham followed up on this investigation and
subsequently issued a citation to Mary B. SANDNER ( 11-17-61 ),
of SE Canby on a charge of Furnishing Alcoholic Beverages to a
Minor. Officer Cunningham determined that Ms. Sandner had given
her daughter and several of her friends some wine coolers after
they had attended the Prom. The alcoholic beverages were later
transported to the S. Pine Street party.
The case against Ms. SANDNER is being reviewed by
the Canby City Attorney. All the underage minor person cases are
being addressed in the appropriate courts.

On April 16, 2005, the Canby American Legion hosted the Canby
Police Department annual awards banquet. Chief Ken Pagano distributed
the following awards for 2004.

City Manager Mark Adcock also made the City of Canby Employee
of the Month ( April ) to Chief Ken Pagano. This award was based
upon nominations from the various divisions of the city on a monthly
basis. Chief Pagano received a unanimous vote from every member
of the Canby Police Department for this award.

SUICIDAL SUBJECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
At 7:44 PM on Friday, March 25, 2005, Canby Police responded
to a call of a man threatening suicide in the 1600 block of S.
Elm street. Arriving CPD officers discovered that Anthony Lee
AKERS ( 07-18-64 ), had taken a .32 caliber handgun and locked
himself into the garage of the residence he shared with his mother.
AKERS was despondent after discovering he had six (6) Contempt
of Court warrants existing for his arrest from Clackamas County.
After making initial containment of the scene and safely evacuating
AKERS mother and sister from the residence, the Clackamas County
SWAT team was called out and responded to the scene. Negotiations
ensued and AKERS surrendered without incident at 11:50 PM.
Canby police subsequently lodged AKERS in the county jail on
the warrants.

Car Wash Robbery Suspect Arrested
On Wednesday, March 23, 2005, Canby Police Detectives arrested
Brian C. MOTTAZ ( 03-13-68 ), of NE Canby and charged him with
one count of Menacing and Robbery III in connection with the March
20,2005 robbery of the Canby Car Wash.
The case remains under investigation and will be submitted to
the Clackamas County DA's office for further legal action.

Strong arm Robbery
At 1:24 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2005, Canby Police responded
to a reported robbery at the Canby Car Wash located at 118 SE
1st street. The single attendant on duty was approached by a male
subject wearing a ski mask who demanded that the attendant open
the cash till. Although no weapon was seen or displayed, the suspect
told the victim that he would kill him if he did not comply. After
removing an undisclosed amount of cash from the till, the suspect
ordered the victim into the bathroom and fled on foot.
Canby Police K-9 Officer Lisa Panoff responded and a track was
initiated with her canine but the suspect was not located at the
time.
The victim described the robber as possibly being a white male,
approximately 5'9" tall weighing about 160 pounds wearing
a long sleeve shirt with a short sleeve shirt pulled over it.
The case is under investigation. Any persons having information
regarding the identity of the suspects should contact Det. Tony

Search Warrant and Arrest
At approximately 7:00 AM on March 18, 2005, Canby Police executed
several search warrants on two separate apartments and two vehicles
at the PINE TERRACE APARTMENT COMPLEX located at 800 N. Pine street.
Entry was obtained on the warrants by the CPD Tactical Entry Team
(TET). In the first apartment entered, the manager and her husband,
Clarence William BERGREN (01-17-61) were detained. BERGEN was
the apartment complex maintenance man. A search of this apartment
yielded a sizable amount of suspected methamphetamine.
A second apartment connected with Mr. Bergren was also searched
with a warrant and two other adult individuals were subsequently
detained. Suspected psilocybin mushrooms and methamphetamine were
located in this apartment. Although not arrested at this time,
the two adults will be subject to further investigation. Inside
a garage located on the apartment premises, more suspected methamphetamine
was located along with a working, but dismantled 12 gauge shotgun.
Two vehicles connected to BERGREN were also searched pursuant
to search warrants but nothing illegal was located .
BERGREN was subsequently arrested at the scene and lodged in
the Clackamas County Jail on charges of Possession and Delivery
of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
The case, which was originally investigated and coordinated by
Detective Steve Floyd, will be sent to the Clackamas County District
Attorneys office for review and further legal action.

SINGLE CAR ACCIDENT
At 1:24 PM on Thursday March 17, 2005, Canby Police and Fire
officials responded to a reported single car accident at S. Locust
and Highway 99E. The driver of the 1997 Dodge pick-up, Christi
Gayle HICKMAN ( 10-28-71), of SE Canby, was observed by witnesses
to have crossed 99E at Locust without stopping and continued northbound
into a field near Hulberts Flower Shop and onto the railroad tracks.
Ms. HICKMAN was subsequently transported by Lifeflight helicopter
to Emmanuel hospital in Portland. Her physical condition is unknown
at this time.
Ms. HICKMANS vehicle was seriously damaged in the accident. No
other persons were injured.
The matter remains under investigation by the traffic division
of the Canby Police Department.

SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER ASSAULTING CHILD
On March 9, 2005, Detective Fetters arrested Michael Thomas GERBOVITZ,
(12-02-72) on Felony Assault III charges, and one count each of
Strangulation, Recklessly Endangering, and Menacing. GERBOVITZ
was taken into custody after a police investigation that indicated
GERBOVITZ had assaulted his 6-year-old daughter on March 8, 2005
at their SE Canby residence.
Canby Police were first notified of the situation by the Department
of Human Services who had been contacted earlier on Marth 9th
by Trost Elementary school officials who observed the physical
injuries to the child who attends the school.
Officer Chris Macom made the initial investigation, and after
determining the potential criminal issues, contacted Det. Fetters.
DHS officials also assisted and after GERBOVITZ was taken into
custody, the 6 year-old female, her 6 year-old step brother, and
5 month-old infant half-sister were taken into protective custody
by DHS authorities and placed in foster homes.
The investigation by police allege that GERBOVITZ became angry
with his daughter and subsequently struck her with fists, kicked,
slapped and choked his daughter.
The child did not require hospitalization but was examined at
the CARES unit as is standard practice in any child abuse investigation.
GERBOVITZ was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on a combined
$37,500 bail. The case will be reviewed by the District Attorneys
office for further action.
The case has been sent to the District Attorney for further legal
action.

Suspect Arrested in Theft of Motorcycle
On March 4, 2005, Canby Police Officer Scott Cunningham arrested
Brian David HORNING (05-19-84) on one count of Unauthorized Use
of a Vehicle.
Canby officers took a report on March 2, 2005 from a NE Canby
citizen who reported that his motorcycle had been stolen out of
his driveway. On March 4, 2005, Washington County Sheriffs Department
deputies recovered the motorcycle, Officer Cunningham received
information that HORNING had stolen the motorcycle and after locating
and interviewing him at a N. Elm residence where he was staying
(HORNING is a transient). and arrested him for the UUMV charge
and lodged him in Clackamas County Jail.
The case has been sent to the District Attorney for further legal
action.

Suspect cited for Trespass and Theft
On March 3, 2005, Canby Police issued a citation to Dennis L
SINGLETARY, (02-24-26) of Suitland, Maryland for one count of
Criminal Trespass I and six counts of Forgery in the 2nd degree.
Canby Police were contacted by a SE Canby resident on March 2,
2005 who reported that her 20 year-old son, who is physically
disabled with Cerebral Palsy, was home alone watching television
around 5PM when Mr. SINGLETARY, a door-door sales representative
of World Wide Readers Services (a magazine sales company based
in Miami, FL), knocked on the victims door.
Investigation from interviewing both the victim and his mother
indicated that SINGLETARY entered the residence uninvited and
convinced the disabled male to produce his checkbook. SINGLETARY
is accused of writing out six (6) checks for the victim for several
hundred dollars in magazine orders and forging the disabled victims
name on the checks.
The case has been referred to the Canby City Attorney for review
and further legal action.

Auto-Ped Accident
At 5:50 AM on February 2, 2005, Officer Chris Macom responded
to a reported injury accident involving a bicyclist and motor
vehicle at Highway 99EW and S. Pine Street. An investigation determined
that Pamela J. COCHRAN ( 10-30-59 ) of SE Canby was making a left
turn from S. Pine Street onto S. 99E and struck bicyclist Christopher
N. MEANS ( 10-31-77 ) of N. Canby, as he was crossing through
the intersection.
Means was slightly injured and taken by Canby Fire Department
EMS to Willamette Falls Hospital for observation.
Ms. Cochran was issued a traffic citation for Failing to Obey
a Traffic Control Device.

ELUDE SUSPECT ARRESTED
At 10:20 PM on January 29, 2005, Officer Scott Cuningham stopped
a white Dodge Sentra for weaving on Highway 170 near Bernards
Rd. After stopping, as Officer Cunningham approached the vehicle,
the driver took off and a pursuit was initiated. The driver continued
on Hwy 170 until turning on Macksburg Rd. The suspect drove east
on Macksburg Rd until finally stopping near Highway 213. Other
Canby and Molalla PD units assisted and David Michael OLNEY (03-11-59)
of Colton, was arrested without further incident.
OLNEY was subsequently lodged in Clackamas County Jail on charges
of Reckless Driving and Attempting to Elude Police
The matter has been sent to the Clackamas County District Attorney
for further legal action.

SUSPECT ARRESTED OPERATING STOLEN VEHICLE
On Saturday, January 22, 2005 at approximately 11:30 AM, Sgt.
Dennis Swanberg of the Canby Police Department was following a
2005 Toyota Camray on NE Territorial Rd. He noticed that the vehicle
was going much slower than the posted 35 mph speed limit. He called
in the vehicles registration and was informed by CCOM dispatch
that the car had been reported as stolen by the Emerick Construction
Company on SE Otty Rd. in Portland earlier that day.
Sgt. Swanberg, assisted by Canby Officers Teresa Britton and
Jason Deason, initiated a traffic stop on N. Holly Street and
Knights Bridge Rd. The sole occupant of the car, Mr. Juan TENORIO,
JR. (12-29-84), of Woodburn, was taken into custody without incident
and subsequently lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on a charge
of Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle
The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney for further
legal action.

OFFICERS IDENTIFIED IN 1/15/05 SHOOTING
The Canby Police Department is releasing the names of the two
Police Officers involved in the incident of January 15, 2005 where
Leslie Duane Turner was shot at the 200 block of S. Knott Street.
Canby Officers Dolores Kilpela and Jeremy Holstad responded to
an incomplete 911 call placed by Mr. Turner. A scuffle resulted
after the officers observed that Turner was in possession of 2
handguns. Officer Holstad fired his Glock .40 caliber handgun
striking Turner in the upper arm. The officers were not injured.
Mr. Turner was subsequently transported to OHSU hospital, treated
and released on Sunday ( 1/16 ) afternoon and was immediately
arrested and lodged in Clackamas County Jail on a charge of Attempted
Aggravated Murder. The case is being investigated by the Clackamas
County Interagency Major Crimes Team and their findings will be
submitted to the District Attorney for a future Grand Jury hearing.
Officer Kilpela is a 9 year veteran of the Canby PD and Officer
Holstad has been a CPD officer for 4 1/2 years. Both officers
are presently on administrative leave which is customary in officer
involved shooting incidents.

SUSPECT CHARGED IN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
On January 16, 2004, Leslie Duane TURNER was released from the
hospital and taken into custody and lodged on one count of Attempted
Aggravated Murder in the Clackamas Jail. TURNER was shot once
in the arm on January 15, 2004 by a Canby Police Officer during
a physical altercation when officers responded to an incomplete
911 call at TURNERS residence located at the 200 block of S. Knott
street.
The officers are presently on paid administrative leave as the
case is being investigated for presentation to the District Attorney's
office.

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
At 3:33 PM on Saturday, January 15, 2005, Canby Police responded
to an incomplete 911 call in the 200 block of S. Knott Street.
Upon arriving, two police officers confronted Leslie Duane TURNER
(04-02-68). TURNER made the 911 call, and is a resident of the
house on S. Knott.
An altercation ensued between TURNER and the police officers.
TURNER was carrying two handguns during the scuffle which resulted
in him being shot once in the upper right arm by one of the Canby
officers. Medical assistance was summoned and TURNER was transported
by Canby Fire Department Medics to a Portland area hospital where
he was admitted in stable condition. No injuries were sustained
by the police officers. The case is being investigated by members
of the Clackamas County Inter-Agency Major Crimes Team and their
findings will be submitted to the District Attorney for review.
At this time, no criminal charges have yet been filed on Mr. TURNER.
The names of the police officers involved will not yet be released
as is standard in these type of circumstances, and they are presently
on paid administrative leave until the investigation has been
completed.

CANBY CANINE LOCATES SUSPECT
At approximately 12:08 AM on Friday January 7, 2005, Canby Police
Officer Chris Mead, and his German Shepard Canine JALK, assisted
the Clackamas County Sheriffs Department in a vehicle pursuit
and subsequently locating and arresting the suspect in Silverton.
The suspect eluded Sheriffs Deputies begriming in Wilsonville
& I-5, who attempted to stop him for traffic violations. A
high speed chase ensued down through Hubbard and eventually terminating
near Silverton High School where the suspect crashed into some
bushes.
Officer Mead announced to the fleeing suspect that he would be
deploying JALK and a search was initiated and the suspect was
located within 15 minutes attempting to conceal himself in some
vegetation near the track field at Silverton High School.
Arrested and lodged in Clackamas County Jail on numerous warrants
and a charge of Attempting to Elude Police was Melvin Anthony
MURRAY Jr. (05-10-68) of Milwaukie. The case will be reviewed
by the Clackamas County District Attorney.

SUSPECT INDICTED IN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
On January 3, 2004, Eyoi Guzman-Sandoval (09-01-80 ) was indicted
by the Clackamas County Grand Jury on charges of Felony Attempting
to Elude, DUII, 4 counts of Hit & Run driving and 2 counts
of Recklessly Endangering.
Eyoi Guzman-Sandoval was arrested December 22, 2004 after being
involved in a driving incident were a Canby Police car was rammed
at the Canby Sewer Treatment Plant nearing hitting a police officer.
Officer Nathan DiCenzo of the Canby Police Department fired two
shots at Guzman-Sandoval striking his vehicle. The Guzman-Sandoval
vehicle continued until stalling on N. Redwood Street in Canby
where he was arrested without further incident.

BURGLARY SUSPECT ARRESTED
At 5:16 AM on January 1, 2005, Canby Police officers responded
to Cutsforths Thriftway on a burglary in progress report. Upon
arrival, Canby police located one Jacob Charles LEE ( 08-14-82
) of N. Canby inside the store. Lee had entered the store as bakery
employees were arriving for work, and was heard in the catwalk
area.
Canby Police used a canine to help locate LEE who was transported
to Canby Police Department. He later physically resisted arresting
officers prior to being handcuffed to be transported to jail.
Nothing was taken from Thriftway, although there was damage to
several ceiling tiles. It is believed that LEE was attempting
to locate a former girlfriend inside the store who he thought
was employed there ( the claimed girlfriend was never employed
at Thriftway ).
LEE was lodged in the Clackamas County on charges of Burglary
II, Criminal Mischief II, Criminal Trespass II, Resisting Arrest,
and one (1) count of Probation Violation. LEE is presently on
probation in Clackamas County for a previous Unauthorized Use
of a Vehicle conviction ).
The case has been sent to the District Attorney for further legal
action.
