Dear community members,
I am very appreciative to the many voters who supported and decided to vote “yes” to pass the Clackamas County Emergency Radio Bond, ballot measure 3-475, on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Voting results showed that 71.1 percent of county residents voted in favor of Measure
3-476, with 28.9 percent opposed.
From a local perspective, I think this is certainly in the best interest of everyone in Canby.
The passing of this bond county-wide helped to spread the cost of the new system. Otherwise, local public agencies would eventually have to pay for the new emergency radio system and associated equipment out of their general fund which could result in a reduction of additional services to their community.
The passing of this bond will purchase 50% of the radios used by first responders and upgrade a much needed county- wide emergency dispatch system with new technology and seismic improvements, ultimately resulting in better emergency preparedness and response.
I am confident the residents in Clackamas County understood the importance of this needed public safety communications system. I am personally thankful to the overwhelming number of voters who were united in the passing of this ballot measure.
